After the Flood 2010 - Augusta
The area from which this photo was taken flooded in Jan 2010 (as it does pretty much every spring) due to ice breaking loose after a winter storm and jamming against the pilings of the bridge in the background. Water level rose in about 15 minutes from where the ice is in this photo to a depth approx 6 feet / 1.9 m deeper and receded over the course of the evening when the ice broke loose and got hung up again a few miles downstream.
As of this time (Feb 8 2010) it is still down there and pretty well stuck. We expect it will come loose again next warm storm but the crumbled blocks of ice are up to 10 feet thick in places so it's going to be an interesting spring season.
The area where my car in the background is parked was in deep enough water to cover that vehicle. This parking lot floods regularly and I'm glad I don't park here during the work week.
