A trip to Southern Florida would be a little disappointing without seeing an alligator. On this day we saw four, one submerged in a canal near the entrance to the refuge, a 2-footer in muddy pond near the exit from the park, a 4-footer not far from the big lagoon, and this BIG GUY. We were walking along the bank, and came close to walking into this EIGHT FOOTER!!! He was sunning himself, and was inactive. But, when a group of "oohing" and "aaahhing" elderly ladies appoached he stirred slightly. We were only 3 feet away from him, and I said "Ladies, maybe you should move back a bit" ; -) (I moved back too)!!
Observed in JN Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, Sanibel Island, Florida, USA. These are wild animals in their natural environment, NOT CAPTIVE ANIMALS.
