Greater Yellowlegs Takeoff

This Greater Yellowlegs (Tringa melanoleuca) was seen at low tide on the shore at the entrance to the Portland Harbor, Maine. It's easy to understand the basis for it's common name: it stands about 12 inches tall, and has long, yellow legs!! It also has strong protective coloration (as long as it stays on dark seaweed at low tide ; -) !!)
