Beyond the horizon...
135 - Our Daily Challenge - "Inspirational":
“The best we can hope for in this life is a knothole peek at the shining realities ahead. Yet a glimpse is enough. It’s enough to convince our hearts that whatever sufferings and sorrows currently assail us aren’t worthy of comparison to that which waits beyond the horizon.”
~Joni Eareckson Tada
I was excited for the challenge because I collect inspirational quotes. I've wanted to use this one for a while, but couldn't think how. Knotholes were easy enough, but how to capture the "shining reality" on the other side? It finally dawned on me to use layers. So I blinded myself taking pictures of the sun and layered one beneath the knothole. It's not perfect and I'm not really sure it works, but it's all I could come up with. :) It looks a little HDR because I bumped up contrast and sharpened to emphasize texture. Guess I have my Sliders Sunday photo as it's processed within an inch of its life!! lol.
The quote's author is a quadriplegic who was paralyzed in a diving accident. She's an artist who paints holding the brush between her teeth and can even drive a van equipped with head controls. She spent years praying for healing, but eventually found peace in trusting that God has a purpose for her just as she is. Among other things, she started an organization that provides wheelchairs for people in impoverished countries. For a brief introduction to her story, check out www.youtube.com/watch?v=Foffh-gneRs. This amazing woman inspires me!!!
