Richard Isbell's Americana
A few samples of material from the ATF files we hold on the Americana family designed by Richard Isbell starting in 1965. This was the last series that ATF created in metal type. The 1960s marked the end of the large type purchases made by the type houses to have on hand and available for their clients all the latest in type design. Photo type had started making inroads into what had pretty much remained the domain of the various type foundries. The explosion in usage of photo type, and ultimately digital type opened the creation of new designs to anyone who had a grasp of the alphabet.
