I scanned this from Richard Isbell's original artwork for ATF's Americana 725 type face, drawn in 1966, and then cast in metal. The Americana series was the last new type face introduced by ATF, and the Bold was the very last new face introduced by ATF. There is another drawing for the 8 and 10 pt sizes. Uploading these to flickr screws up the image--the original art is very sharp, as was the scan, but not here.

You can see the laser precision that original art, in the later years, had for making type--a little scotch tape, rubber cement, misaligned center marks, a quick shot on a stat camera, and a classic is born. A little white paint to shorten the stem and off to the matrix department.
