Chris Whittemore cuts the ice at the Penn State Ice Rink with the facility's Zamboni. The Zamboni has a blade that thinly shaves the surface of the ice, eliminating grooves and uneven areas, then pumps hot water over the newly cut ice. The water quickly freezes, creating a smooth new ice surface. Whittemore and his staff run the Zamboni on the ice several times daily.
