15 Fox Place dinner (details below)
Oh man, this is such an awesome dinner!
So, this is the deal. It's $90 a person and it's BYO and when I called to make the reservation, I was told to come hungry. Seriously, we should not have eaten AT ALL yesterday. If we ever go again, I will know better. No food the day of.
The restaurant is in a townhouse in Jersey City , not too far from Journal Square. I'm not sure if it's technically the Heights or not.
The waitress started bringing us food as soon as we arrived. I think we received 8 appetizers in all, including mini pizzas, creamy polenta with red sauce, eggplant rollatini (SO delicate!), olives (black ones that I actually liked), green peppers stuffed with breadcrumbs, muffalettas (olive tapenade on tiny breads -- I actually liked this, too), lemony spaghetti (never had this before, so simple and lemony and delicious).
We then got our "salad" course, which was a small load of crusty white bread with garlic baked inside and sliced, marinated cherry tomatoes on top.
When I made the reservation, I mentioned that Jeff doesn't eat meat, so he got to pick between fish or shrimp. He picked shrimp. I was given breaded veal underneath what looked like your basic shredded salad greens with a light vinaigrette. Maybe I was just stuffed at this point, but my entree was a bit of a letdown.
Dessert was a little molten chocolate cake with a scoop of homemade ice cream on top. And then some homemade biscotti and lemon cookies. We got a whole pot of espresso and yet, somehow! we fell asleep almost as soon as we got home.
We were also given a glass of limoncello and a glass of what I think was called Vansanto. The waitress said watch out, the Vansanto is strong. So, I took a tiny sip. But I loved it, way more than the limoncello, which I think IS too strong.
