Sweet potato candy! (doce de batata doce)
This candy (typical of the Brazilian midwest, where my mother's family comes from) is certainly one of the symbols of my childhood. Ever since I got here, I've been wanting to make some -- China has awesome sweet potatos. Yesterday I finally did it! Although my grandma uses crystal sugar, and I decided to go with brown, which made it a lot darker (the traditional thing is more greenish); but the taste is amazing. Guess next time I'll cook it a bit more, though.
