Cadman's Cottage

Named after John Cadman, who was arrested in Bewdley, England on Dec 19 1796 for stealing a horse. The death sentence he received on March 11 1797 at Worcester court was changed to "Transportation for life to the colony of New South Wales".

In 1809, he was employed in Sydney's Government Dockyard and received his condition pardon in 1814.

He was appointed Government Coxswain on January 1, 1827, and moved into Cadman's Cottage where he lived for 19 years. Cadman married Elizabeth Mortimer, a 35 year old woman with 2 small daughters, on October 26 1830 at St. Phillip's Church.
