Welcome to Chinatown
Every major city in the world has a Chinatown and the city of Angels is no exception. I'm aware of at least three Chinatowns in the Greater Los Angeles area. The dragons in this photo mark the official entrance to New Chinatown just north of downtown. Translated in English, the Chinese inscription says, "Welcome." And on this late night excursion to get my Chinese food fix, I felt welcomed to take this shot with downtown buildings at the background.
I tried to take the shot on five different locations but I couldn't get a good composition. I then realized that the best place, without any obstruction, is to take the shot in the middle of Broadway Blvd. Since it was late in the evening and the road wasn't too busy, I was going to take the daring shot except that the Police kept on patrolling the area. And although I was somewhat disappointed, I was also relieved because as I was about to go home, I thought of taking the shot while leaning from a light post a few feet in front of the dragons. I finally got a decent angle and went home feeling like Bruce Lee in his movie, Enter the Dragon.
Shot Data: Manual handheld shot ( leaning from a post) using available light and no post-processing software used.
