Staffordshire, Mucklestone

Church of St Mary Mucklestone Staffordshire 14c tower from whose battlements Queen Margaret of Anjou, wife of Henry VI and her son Prince Henry watched the defeat of 10,000 Lancastrians in a Battle of the Roses at Blore Heath.

She was the driving force behind the formation of the Lancastrian army (because her husband was mentally incapable) which intercepted the Yorkists, and hence triggered the battle. Once she had seen the defeat of her troops she ordered the blacksmith, William Skelhorn, to reverse her horses shoes to disguise her escape, .

The church has a lot of Kempe glass
