"Here lyeth buried Sir William Waldegrave knight and Dame Elizabeth his wife who lived together in godlye marriage 21 yeare and had issue 6 sons and 4 daughters. The saide Elizabeth departed this life the 10th day of Maye in the year of our Lorde God 1581 and the saide Sir William departed the 1st daye of August in the yeare of oure Lord God 1613"

He was the only son of William Waldegrave 1554 and Juliana Rainsford / Raynsford and Margaret Shaa

He was given by Elizabeth l the estates at Bures and Wormingford of his uncle Edward Waldegrave www.flickr.com/photos/52219527@N00/537094692/ due to the latters recusancy

 

The monument is in the chapel the Waldegrave family built in 1514 by his great grandfather Sir William Waldegrave 1528 of Smallbridge House, Bures who m Margery www.flickr.com/photos/52219527@N00/14373986946/ daughter of Sir Henry Wentworth of Coldham / Codham Hall, Wethersfield Essex 1483 by Elizabeth Howard www.flickr.com/photos/52219527@N00/6028175545/ of Wiggenhall,

 

Sir William rebuilt Smallbridge house and twice entertained Elizabeth l there and raised forces against the Armada. This excessive loyalty started the impoverishment of this branch of the family and by 1718, the last Waldegrave in Bures, Elizabeth widow of John Barrington died at High Pale.
