Mount Rushmore National Memorial

We took a road trip to Rapid City South Dakota to visit Mount Rushmore over the Labour Day Long Weekend with some friends. This was our first time doing a longer road trip with other people, quite a different experience, more people to share it with. Trips like this are very hard to come by, enjoy them while you can.

Mount Rushmore was the reason we embarked on this journey in the first place, but it ended up being just a minor part of the fun. It is beautiful and very impressive. It is a nice sculpture on a massive scale built during the Great Depression. We also made our way over to the Crazy Horse Memorial which seems to dwarf Mount Rushmore if ever completed and Custer State Park was worth a drive.

The Rapid City area has a good number of road side attractions and rather impossible to cover in one weekend. Cest la vie, so many things to do, so little time. Living in Calgary Alberta, we're probably closer to Mount Rushmore than a good chunk of the US population.

It was certainly a trip to remember.
