Juvenile Coal Tit
I was taking pictures in my garden when I noticed this little bird only a few metres away. It looked quite weak and didn't seem to be scared of me at all and it would often just stop and lie on the grass with its eyes shut, constantly calling to its parents which never came. I knew that it's best not to interfere and that the parents were probably around somewhere but I was concerned because it was out in the open, didn't seem to be afraid and was calling loudly so any nearby predators could have got it easily so I tried to put it in a bush where it would be safer. Even when I went to pick it up it didn't move or look at me. It only flew when my hands were touching it and then only moved about 2 metres to a bush and it still didn't seem afraid of me then. I left it and put some warm soaked mealworms out to help. It gradually seemed to get stronger but stayed in our garden the whole day and the next day it was gone. I've never seen a young coal tit before in our garden and I didn't know there were any nests nearby so I don't know where it came from or where its parents were but hopefully now it is ok.
