A friend at work brought me this swallowtail in a plastic container Monday morning. He found it dead outside of his house. What baffled me was that this butterfly was practically undamaged.
What brought it down in its prime?
I suspect it was insecticide (not from my friend). There are so many mosquitoes in some of the wetter parts of Florida at this time. I think many counties might have started spraying. The poison is delivered by fogging machine and kills all insects.
Another possibility is a virus or bacterial infection.
Ashes to ashes. Dust to dust. Thou art beautiful even in death.
