Hiking trail, this way!
Late afternoon sun glows on a small sign for hikers at Emory Pass. We're on the crest of the Black Range, and the CDT (Continental Divide Trail) passes by here. A five-mile stretch of trail from here to Hillsboro Peak is the most popular hike in the area, since it offers great views and requires only moderate physical exertion, and you have easy access to the trailhead by paved road. You're likely to meet a ranger along the way, or at the fire lookout they still maintain on Hillsboro Peak.
This theme kicks off a long series of photos captured in these mountains, from locations accessible by foot or hoof, but not the motorized vehicle, particularly the wheeled type like a 4x4.
