Japan earthquake/tsunami response
The Salvation Army has been active in Japan since 1895, and since 11 March 2011 has been responding to the unprecendented earthquake and tsunami. More than 10,000 people have died or are missing, and devastation has been widespread. The Salvation Army currently has three specialist emergency response teams in north-eastern Japan, with the support of officers who have been despatched from International Headquarters in London, UK.
