Western Pennsylvania Springhouse
Located on the Rt 819, near West Overton, this springhouse is all that is left of a beautiful old 19th century farm. For some reason, the house, which seemed to be in fine condition, was torn down recently. Though the area around it is kept maintained, I have never seen any activity in this place, it just sits there. The construction of local sandstone appears to have originally had a layer of stucco, probably a mixture of mortar and the yellow clay common to the region, then whitewashed. The view from here is lovely, out over the foothills of the Alleghenies. I believe that is the Chestnut Ridge.
