Michigan Gothic house

I saw this old Gothic house just off Rt 62, south of Cassopolis, Michigan. Several years later I noticed in a real estate magazine for the area that it was for sale. Recently I happened to be up that way again and saw that it was all fixed up. It looked in much better shape, but not so interesting.

It needs some lovin! That tiny chimney must mean a tiny little fireplace, what a cute home! Good eye, colors are great too.

A nice find. Looks like it lost half the trim there.

Delightful shot. Strange tthat the chimney so obviously ruins the symetry. It couldn't be a later addition - could it?

your words make this place more intriguing...

Marti, I would say the chimney is a later addition, most likely for a furnace in the basement. There wouldn't have been a fireplace or wood stove so close to the windows on either floor visible. My house (1870) had a similar one going to a coal furnace that was a 20th century addition. Not very attractive at that. Also, picture this house with wood shingles on the roof.

Looks like they still don't have the trim to the left of the chimney!
  • Equinox27 6y

Yeah, I guess that's just too much work!

I haven't been down that far yet. I hope to one day, but I really don't know when that will be. There are so many places to explore and so little time/money.
