"'Bilster' is a Large Woolwich type, built by Harland & Wolff in 1936. There is in fact no town in Britain called Bilster and this boat is one of a handful of Grand Union boats that were given mis-spelled names. It is thought it was probably meant to be "Bilston". The theory goes that the list of names was dictated to a Harland & Wolff clerk via telephone and he either mis-heard the name owing to the poor phone line or he confused it in his head with the previous name in the list, Bicester."
