I live in the California Mother Lode which is famous for it's gold mining lore. However, I think my idea of golden riches is somewhat out of sync with our county historians. The historian oozes on and on about miners and gold diggins; gold pans and picks; sluice boxes and dredgers, all of which are supposed to end in the ultimate payoff of poke sacks and gold nuggets. To me, the true mother lode, is a dreamy afternoon on a small pond with the sunlight cascading across the water like strands of gold being spun from a spinning wheel.
Bonus points if you can find the goose that lays the golden egg.
