United Confederate Veteran's Reunion, May 16-18, 1916 at Birmingham, Alabama

The 1916 Reunion of the United Confederate Veterans was a city-wide event to honor the service of Confederate veterans of the Civil War and the 26th annual meeting of the United Confederate Veterans organization. The United Confederate Veterans, also known as the UCV, was a veteran's organization for former Confederate soldiers of the American Civil War, and was equivalent to the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) which was the organization for Union veterans. This event was the third and last national reunion to be held in Birmingham. Thousands of veterans came to the city from Tuesday May 16 to Thursday May 18, 1916 to reminisce, enjoy planned entertainments and be feted by the citizens of the city.(source: Bhamwiki.com)

This view of the parade shows it moving west along 2nd Avenue North between 21st and 19th Streets. The spire of the old federal Post Office can be seen in the distance (this Richardsonian Romanesque style building was torn down in the 1920's).
