Queen of the woods

The glorious colours of the beech trees around the village of Hurst Green in the Ribble Valley of Lancashire.

Beech leaves are light green to olive dependant upon the species, but in Autumn turn golden, russet and deep brown.

Folklore suggests that if a beech stick is carved with words of your greatest wish it will come true, Beech is an old symbol of prosperity, and it is also known as ‘Queen of the Woods’.
