“Beyond the Surface”
Mixed media- acrylic paint, pen, photography--on paper 18” x 24”
Just as the flavors of Jordan wine take time to fully reveal themselves, I wanted to do a piece of artwork that did the same. I chose a style that would appear one way from a distance and then would reveal more as you look closer and closer. The wider image is the classic Jordan chateau, but as you get closer you see that the chateau is made up of photos of everything LA; from downtown, to venice, to the murals of east LA etc. LA is also about going out and having a good time, so I included elements that make up that experience of drinking a fine glass of wine with friends--trees made up of grapes that serve as leaves, wine menus used as bark, mountains comprised of wine cork. I wanted the piece to have layers and complexity to it similar to Jordan wine. Both LA and Jordan Wine are complex, comprised of multiple elements that come together to create one harmonious experience, my hope is that through the use of mosaic mixed media I’m able to convey that and blend the elegance of Jordan Wine with all that is LA.
