James Mathers, Los Angeles, Cabernet 2012
Hi Fellow drinkers!
Attached is my submission titled "Cabernet 2012" Nova Acrylic on canvas 18"x24" By James Mathers. At large in Los Angeles.
Says here that i should write a statement, 200 words. I got to ask if I even know 200 words at this point? I could attempt to be wise about the subject, composition or juxtapositions. I could even use the word "oeuvre", but why do that to myself?
The truth is that us painters, we are dinosaurs, pterodactyls, neanderthal throwbacks from a lost world, turtles! pill bugs! anaerobic blue green cyanobacteria! Yet for reasons I will never comprehend, here i am in a botanical garden, the sun pouring down on my somehow not extinct head, and what do i got to work with? Hog bristle brushes? WTF?? I couldn't even get a clear image of the label art on my phone, so I went ahead and bought a bottle of your Cabernet Sauvignon (now empty). Short list of materials: brushes, canvas, Blue, Yellow, a big fat bottle of California Red. Put them all together on a table in the garden and I am certain that it constitutes, the cause of, and the solution to all life's problems.
So I took the Label, turned the clouds and the landscape into grapes and just tore into it like a real caveman. I think it came out pretty dramatic, maybe it's just the wine. I gotta go lay down, naptime.
