First CSA Share of the Season
Yesterday, we received our first share of the season from the new CSA we joined. The produce comes from Norwich Meadows Farm and the name of our CSA is Smadar (I'm not sure what smadar means in English, though.) This week was vegetables only, but starting next week, we'll also get fruit. One of the things we learned last year in our old CSA is that often, the share was too big for just the two of us, despite only getting it every other week. A lot of it went to waste, unable to be used in time. This year, we are splitting the share with our neighbors, a family across the hall from us with two small children. This is cheaper and means less food waste. Now, speaking of waste, I have to stop using those plastic baggies and invest in more plastic containers. Stay tuned for recipes!
Update: I used some garlic scapes in this morning's eggs. I trimmed the straggly ends, chopped up the rest, sauteed them in butter and poured the eggs over the scapes to make an omelet. I used swiss cheese because that's all I had in the fridge but in the below-referenced NY Times article, the author uses gruyere, which has a similar taste to swiss.
