David's Rinko locknut inspired by photo in Bicycle Quarterly Vol. 12 No.4

In Japan bicycles can travel on the trains but there are size restrictions. Removing the forks and several other key components allows the bike to fit into a compact soft travel bag that meets the size requirements. This system can also be used for car travel...

To make fork removal easy with a minimal of tools, this modified lock nut works well. Just slide a 6mm allen wrench through the brazed on tube and loosen the top lock nut.

The threaded cup can be un-threaded by hand, and as long as the headset has sealed cartridge bearings (no exposed grease), this is quick and clean.

This piece will be finished satin nickle.
