Bazzania trilobata

Bazzania trilobata (Lepidoziaceae) is a quite robust and distinctive leafy liverwort. The leaves overlap in incubous fashion, i.e., from the bottom upwards, and each leaf has a 3-toothed apex. The species is abundant on humus or peaty soil, usually in coniferous woods. This specimen was photographed June 24, 2007 in Hocking County, Ohio, USA.
