@mommy peace: These doors and many others are sitting in the front garden of an old house at 222 Paseo del Pueblo Norte in Taos, New Mexico. I added it to the Flickr map. The establishment is actually the business of Dunbar and Dunbar. The examples sitting around in the weather are just stunning. Also here is a link to the online catalog. Have a good stiff drink handy when you read the prices. patrickdunbar.com/location.html

@lauralemur: Thanks very much. I would guess that door #2 might be one of the more economical doors on the lot. It might be negotiated for your bank account number, one of your limbs, your first born and a year or two in slavery. I.e.: They were very expensive.

@andrewlmurphy: Thanks! There were so many doors sitting around the lot that one could hardly miss getting an interesting shot.

@Kavingate: Thanks! When walking onto the lot I had the feeling one gets when entering an import automobile showroom.

@originalimac: Thanks very much. It really was a photographer’s heaven! I think #1 was painted teak from a Bombay hotel.

@blairdasshpb: I can’t believe I only have a dozen shots from the place. I could have spent the day there. I must have been in even greater awe than I remember. I think you would have enjoyed it too. Some of the pieces were so stunning it was like wandering in an art gallery; one hesitates to go near them for fear an alarm would sound and the museum guards would appear. My continual thought was: How could one person or company collect such an inventory of doors salvaged from buildings all over the world? The shipping alone must have been in Carl Sagan terms.

And believe me, I was tempted more than once to open one. They tend to fall on you when you do.

    It's like the Secret Garden.

@Manny A: Thanks, there was quite a variety to choose from.

@magpie's eye: Ha! Right! I think the shop owner would like to be less of a secret. Did you see those prices?

Well, in the north part, it's a ski resort for about four or five months a year and and in the south part, well... do the words "112 in the shade" mean anything to you? It is absolutly a wonderful place but you have to move around a bit to beat the climate.
