People crowd the streets of Dhaka, Bangladesh. The global population is expected to grow from 6.5 billion in 2005 to nearly 9.2 billion in 2050 with the majority of poulation growth occurring in less developed countries. Population growth will increase the demand for food, land, energy, and other natural resources, ultimately leading to greater agricultural production and increased burning of fossil fuels to heat homes, power cars, and fuel industry.
