Venice Louisiana Shrimp Boat, 2006

Venice is the last community accessible by road along the Mississippi River. Besides that road to the north, it is almost completely surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico and the marshes of the Mississippi Delta. The unicorporated community was almost completely destroyed after Hurricane Katrina; its nickname is "The End of the World."

It is now the closest community to the 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
