Haw is a berry like fruit that is similar to cranberries but it grew on trees. Traditionally, the Chinese called them "san ja". I don't know how the word "haw" originated, but I saw them in many candy packages made with this berry. It is made into thin wafers, small blocks of candy, comes in all sizes and shapes, and sometimes mixed with other ingredients to form new kind of snacks, This is the first time I saw it made with hamburger. I guess it is for the flavor and to enhance its nutritional value. Haw berries is a little tart and a little sweet when ripe. It is sometimes made into preserved fruit snacks.
