100 years of the RAF

Pictured is the first Fairey Long Range Monoplane, pictured at Hinaidi, Iraq, on 16 May 1929.


The aircraft was returning to the UK after completing the first non-stop flight to India. After taking off from Cranwell, Lincolnshire, on 24 April the crew of two - (Squadron Leader AG Jones-Williams and Flight Lieutenant NH Jenkins - covered a distance of 4,130 miles in 50 hours 48 minutes before landing at Karachi.
