Sawyer Bridge

Originally three arches, the Sawyer Bridge crosses the Contoocook halfway between downtown Hillsborough and Lower Village. Built in 1866 by Rueben Loverin, and 18' wide, it's hard to believe this bridge carried US Route 202 (at rear) until 1988.

As you know by now Mitt Romney made a speech about this bridge to nowhere and how building a park was a waste of stimulus money, so… Obama bad. It was a waste of stimulus money- we have too many serious infrastructure deficits to worry about making things pretty. But that's how it works, money is made available and grant proposals churn through a non-merit based process and the graft is handed out. Maybe a sewer is extended, maybe some picnic tables go in. Anyone who thinks a different President will change hundreds of years of politicians arguing over pork is a Class One chump.
