centennial chestnut of Istán

    Prev Next

Centennial chestnut (Castanea sativa) in Istan, Malaga, Spain. It has been named "castaño santo" (holy chestnut) because it is believed that under its canopy a mass was celebrated during the war led by Ferdinand the Catholic against the moors, in 1501.
