Natural Gas and Oil Drilling in Utah
Active natural gas drilling in the Uinta Basin in northeast Utah, east of the town of Ouray. Drilling locations appear as bright spots, each typically 1-1/2 to 3 acres in size, connected by a network of gravel roads and pipeline corridors. Two large water treatment facilities - sets of rectangular ponds in various striking colors - handle the wastewater produced during drilling and hydrofracturing ("fracking") operations.
