Captain William Turner, RMS Lusitania

Captain William Turner 23rd june 1933

William Turner gained his Captain's certificate in 1886 and the rank of Commander in the Royal Navy Reserve in 1913.

He was later the Captain of the RMS Lusitania on the fateful night of May 7, 1915, when she was torpedoed by a German U-Boat and sunk off the coast of Ireland. The ship's sinking was surrounded with controversy that led to an investigation and the entry of the United States and other countries into World War I.

Living in recluse, the loss of the Lusitania haunted him for the rest of his life. He died of cancer
