hanging out

In my travels I've noticed more and more drive-through (usually spelled drive-thru) windows at various establishments. It's an American invented system for people too lazy to get out of their cars that has spread around the world. My apologies to the world. I suspected that McDonald's was the first to have them but checking the Wiki I discovered banks were the first to offer drive-thru service for depositors in 1930. While at Starbucks last night I noticed the drive-thru window there and the girls and I started imagining what other places could offer drive-thru service. A trip to the dentist might be more tolerable at the drive-thru window. School would certainly be preferred that way by many. Drive up, get the assignments and drive away without dealing with annoying teachers. How about a drive-thru wedding? Do you take this driver to be your wedded spouse, in traffic and open roads? I do. I started to imagine a future with everyone in tiny efficient cars driving from place to place all day and never needing to leave their vehicle. I shuddered in horror at the thought. In a small show of defiance, I ignored the convenient drive-thru and walked inside to get my Starbucks. Double espresso mocha if anyone cares to know. A double espresso and a blast of mocha syrup, yum.
