Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey

Gallipoli was the site of a 8 month battle during WWI that saw the deaths of 43,000 British, 15,000 French, 8,700 Australians, 2,700 New Zealanders and 1,370 Indians and 20,000 Turks. Today, the Peninsula is a National Park with many cemeteries and tributes to the fallen.

 

The Lone Pine Memorial commemorates 4,934 Australian and New Zealand troops killed in the sector but who have no known grave.
