Snowy Owl Flight

I was at the pier at Charlotte this morning looking out across the river on the

pier near the Coast Guard Station at a Snowy Owl. It was the first time I've

ever seen one and I was happy with the long distance view.

Just as I was making my to the car I saw some fisherman walking up the pier

where the Owl was and I thought I may get a decent flight shot of the Owl if

the men scared it away.

I made my way directly across the river from this magnificent bird when,

according to plan, it took flight. I couldn't believe my luck when, after

circling a bit, the Owl landed on the pier I was on, about 15 yards away. I

took some pics and just admired this amazing creature for several minutes. At

this time the fisherman on the other pier cleared away and the Owl flew back to

where his original spot, and presumably a recent kill was.

It was drizzly, dark, and gloomy but I was very thankful for this close

encounter.
