Hanging Banana Stems
Bananas are so common in supermarkets around the world, but the Wikipedia article is really fascinating. Bananas are evidently a staple crop throughout much of the world, as important as potatoes to the West and rice to the East.
They produce fruit year round, one banana has the same calories as one potato, the most common variety of banana is the "Cavendish" which is not necessarily the most tasty. I can certainly agree with that assessment, bananas in tropical countries where they are fresh and often of various varieties tend to be much sweeter and of slightly different taste.
