Kibbelkoele, Kibbelveen, Drenthe, Netherlands - 1175

The Kibbelkoele is an artificial lake or puddle near the Drenthe town of Kibbelveen and is beautifully hidden in the woods of the Sleenerzand. The lake originated from the construction of the N381, the Friesland route (from Emmen to Drachten). The sand that was needed for the route from Noord-Sleen to Emmen was taken away from here.

The lake has wide sandy beaches, with a gently sloping bottom. This makes the lake particularly suitable as a play pond for children. In the summer months there are kiosks open for ice cream, deep-frying, drinking, coffee / tea and slush-puppy and it is very busy with nice summer weather.

This is what we saw during our Cycling holiday in Drenthe, the Netherlands, where we have cycled through the beautiful landscape.
