Lake Tekapo, in the *MacKenzie country, South Island, is New Zealand's highest large lake, at 710 metres (2,300 ft) above sea level. The glacial fed lake is a spectacular turquoise colour because of dust from finely ground rock.
Tekapo also has one of the most spectacular night skies in the world! :)
