Endeavour and The Rock
On a flight from Edwards Air Force Base to it's final landing Los Angeles, the Space Shuttle Endeavour is seen over Alcatraz in San Francisco Bay. It is riding aboard a highly modified Boeing 747 and has an F-15 Eagle for a chase plane. When the Space Shuttle program first started, I went to Edwards AFB for the first six landings there and after one of the first landings (I don't remember exactly which one), President Reagan gave a short speech and the next shuttle ready was on the back of the 747 and took-off and did a series of low passes over the crowd. I had a 35mm camera in hand with 200mm of lens on it, and when the 747/shuttle duo flew overhead, it was so low that in one photo that I took, all that can be seen is an engine nacelle on the 747. Just wish that I knew when those photos are hiding!
