Gilles Qualifying 1

Team Ecurie Canada cut a slot in the splitter on the nose of his March 77B so Villeneuve could run over the curbs and not break the nose. He qualified on pole for the Atlantic race there in Trois Rivieres. 1977

This was taken in the last turn leading onto the front straight, a right-hander. As was so typical of him, Gilles is sliding the car a bit and is counter-steering a bit to the left.
