Barnacles grazing Solway Estuary pastures at Cardurnock 5 01 11

We came across this flock of about 1000 Barnacle Geese grazing these estuary-side pastures early this afternoon at Cardurnock.

They were flying into this field in small groups but quickly settled down to grazing. Our presence on the roadside in our van did not disturb them at all as, in the half hour or so that we were there, they grazed towards us to within 20 yards.
