Rare London Survivor - RTL47 at Ensignbus 08/01/11

Former London Transport RTL47 (JXN370), a rare survivor of the RTL class, is seen here on 08/01/11 at the Ensignbus depot at Purfleet.

RTL47 was new to London Transport in 1949 and operated with them for just 9 years before being withdrawn (from Barking Garage) in 1958. After life in London RTL47 operated in Scotland with A&C McLennan but by the late 1970's it had been withdrawn and after spending some time on a farm as a fruit pickers bus it ended up passing through a few preservationist owners, none of whom completed a full restoration, before ending up with well known Essex bus dealer Ensignbus.

Ensignbus never added the vehicle to their heritage fleet as they later acquired RTL453 which was in superior condition and RTL47 was made available for sale. In January 2011 RTL47 was sold to a new preservationist owner and the vehicle is seen here hooked up to the recovery vehicles ready to leave the Ensignbus depot at Purfleet for it's new home in Cheshire. Although previous owners have carried out an amount of restoration work there is still much to do before this vehicle is ready to carry passengers again.
