Big Green Eyes - Vancouver, British Columbia
This is another one of my experimental "long lens macro shots." I used my 300 mm lens at minimum distance (about four feet) for this shot. Although my 50 mm macro lens would probably pick up more detail (if my subject remained still), the 300 mm lens sometimes offers interesting advantages. For example, depth of field is not as big a problem and I get better bokeh. As well, at four feet I can use my tripod, and I am less likely to disturb my subject. I think this is a bee, but I have not seen one like it before. Let me know what you think. The photo was taken in August 2011, with my trusty Olympus digital camera. Enjoy.
