The Boxer mantis
Acromantis sp.
Acromantinae
Hymenopodidae
Not only is this cadaverous, skeletal form one of the smallest and most elusive mantises in the region (elusive, because of his frustrating inconspicuousness, a trait that can be attributed to his habit of curling up on the under-surface of small leaves close to the ground); he is also one of the most highly spirited. These "boxer mantises" are very well known for their vivaciousness, which often expresses itself in very amusing ways. Scroll down to (somewhat) understand what I've been hinting at, even though this mantis has to actually be seen in action to be fully appreciated. (I still don't know why it didn't strike me to take a video......)
Although I still haven't been able to locate the adult form of this gaunt nymph, a later stage in this mantis's development can be viewed here.
